2 \u2013 Comparator Sales<\/strong>
NameBio<\/a><\/strong> is the go-to source that now lists more than 3.2 million domain sales, and you can find other comparators with GoDaddy Appraisal<\/a><\/strong> and DNPric.es.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 \u2013 A New Trademark Search Option<\/strong>
There are many trademark search options, such as TESS<\/a><\/strong> in the US, or WIPO IP<\/a><\/strong> internationally, but I find the Trademark Search at Alter Marketplace<\/a><\/strong> superbly presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 \u2013 Save Money<\/strong>
Don\u2019t overpay for those registrations, transfers and renewals \u2013 sites like TLD-list<\/a><\/strong> can help you find the best rates, or use DomComp<\/a><\/strong> or TLDes.com<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 \u2013 Find Expired, Expiring and Available Names<\/strong>
In 2021 we saw how valuable the right word can be, even in less-popular extensions, and tools like ExpiredDomains.net<\/a><\/strong> can help you find available, expiring, for sale, and liquidated names, along with lots of great metrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 \u2013 Related Domain Names<\/strong>
While end users may not care how many extensions a name is registered in, usually you should, and tools like dotDB<\/a><\/strong> make it trivial to find both exact term registrations, and longer names that include the term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 \u2013 Search Volume<\/strong>
Whether you plan to develop a name yourself, or to sell it to an end user, search volume<\/em> is one of the metrics you need to consider \u2013 there are many options, but you can perform up to 800 free searches per day at SearchVolume.io<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8 \u2013 Cost-Per-Click<\/strong>
Cost-per-click<\/em> is important information, particularly for development, and an Estibot <\/a><\/strong>search can show you the value for broad<\/em> and exact match<\/em>, along with search volume and changes over the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9 \u2013 Dictionary<\/strong>
Don\u2019t say it is a dictionary word without checking, and a dictionary like Merriam-Webster <\/a><\/strong>does a great job giving multiple meanings, the history of the term, and word popularity, but note that it is American spelling, so complement with a UK-spelling dictionary such as Cambridge Dictionary.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 \u2013 Image Source<\/strong>
Whether for presentation on landers, or your own website, or domain promotion on social media, you probably need royalty free images from time to time \u2013 there are many great image sites, but I find Pixabay <\/a><\/strong>particularly good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11 \u2013 Free Website Evaluation<\/strong>
If you develop sites, or have your own portfolio site, a second opinion on what can be improved is valuable \u2013 you can get a remarkably instructive, and free, automated review at Nibbler<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12 \u2013 Domain Rating<\/strong>
In addition to their paid plans, there are a number of free SEO tools at Ahrefs <\/a><\/strong>, including the Authority Checker that provides a Domain Rating (DR)<\/a><\/strong> based on number and quality of backlinks<\/em> and linking websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13 \u2013 Know The Competition<\/strong>
It is always good to know how people are pricing domain names that may be in competition with domain names you are selling, and Dofo Advanced Search<\/a><\/strong> is the most direct way to find out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14 \u2013 Does This Site Have A History?<\/strong>
If acquiring an aged domain name, check out its past history using Wayback Machine – Internet Archive.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 \u2013 Has The Name Been Dropped?<\/strong>
HosterStats <\/a><\/strong>will tell you the hosting history for the name from 2000 to the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

16 \u2013 Single Word Domains<\/strong>
Single word domain names are elegant, and even without a membership you can search in a number of extensions, including .ai<\/code>, .io<\/code>, .co<\/code>, .link<\/code>,.live<\/code> and .app<\/code>, at OneWord.Domains<\/a><\/strong>, although double check truly dictionary, availability and related trademarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

17 \u2013 What Is Hot?<\/strong>
Wondering what other domain investors are registering in the past month? Estibot Domain Trends<\/a><\/strong>, free and updated daily, can tell you (spoiler, it\u2019s still meta<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18 \u2013 Need Statistics?<\/strong>
If you need statistics or information on an extension, you have several options, but I find DomainNameStat<\/a><\/strong> particularly helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19 \u2013 Name Generators<\/strong>
I am not much of a fan of domain name generators, of which there are many out there, but I like LeanDomainSearch<\/a><\/strong>, although it only gives .com<\/code> options \u2013 sites like NameBoy.com <\/a><\/strong>suggest both multiple extensions and compound names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 \u2013 Does This Mean Something in Another Language?<\/strong>
While Google Translate<\/a><\/strong> has obvious limitations, I find it a great tool to discover if a term has meanings in other languages, that could influence use of the name as a brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

21 \u2013 Whois The Owner?<\/strong>
While with privacy you usually can\u2019t find whois the owner from Whois<\/em> searches any more, they are still one of the most used tools, and available at registrars and other places \u2013 I like the Domain Tools Whois Search <\/a><\/strong>because it tells me how many drops and hosting changes there have been over what period, although you will need a paid plan for full details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BONUS \u2013 The Really Essential Site<\/strong>
Of course the most essential site for success in domain name investing is right here,\u00a0NamePros.com!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google search <\/a><\/strong>is also an essential tool for any domain investor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
